Greatness Exists In All Of Us

I’ve been a Will Smith fan since The Fresh Prince of Bel Air aired back in the early 1990’s. I love the way his presence commands attention, the way he delivers his punch lines, how comfortable he is in front of the camera and you can just tell this guy is on fire for life. Will has always been inspirational to me because his work ethic far surpasses his talent. Like he says in the video:

“The only thing that is distinctly different is I’m not afraid to die on the treadmill. You might have more talent than me, you might be smarter than me, but If we get on a treadmill together there is one of two things that is going to happen- You’re going to get off before me or I’m gonna die. It’s really that simple”

After watching this video on Will’s wisdom my respect level went through the roof. We share a lot of similarities in regard to work ethic and focusing on a goal and achieving it by any means necessary. When I was hired on at one of the largest tech companies in the world I wasn’t very tech savvy and I wasn’t the most seasoned corporate guy either. I knew then the only thing that would set me apart is my work ethic. I wasn’t the smartest, I didn’t have the most experience, but I promised myself I’d get up early and stay as late as I needed to finish my day on top. I remember about 2 1/2 years ago the competition was so thick I wouldn’t leave my desk. People joked about it, but I was focused and it’s paid off hand over fist.

Will highlights very important facts that one should focus on:

  • Greatness exists in all of us
  • It really can’t be that easy, yes it can
  • There’s no shortcut to success
  • Lay one brick at a time
  • Focus on making a difference
  • Represent an idea
  • Nothing is unrealistic
  • Our thoughts are physical
  • You really have to focus
  • Attack your fears
  • Be willing to die for the truth
  • Protect your dream

I truly believe in my heart of hearts that greatness exists in all of us. Achieving greatness is a lot like starting a business in the sense that it’s born as a thought, designed on paper and executed in the real world. It all starts and ends with your mindset. Where are your thoughts leading you?

Quote: “If there is no passion in your life, then have you really lived? Find your passion, whatever it may be. Become it, and let it become you and you will find great things happen FOR you, TO you and BECAUSE of you.”- T. Alan Armstrong
